Australian Fashion Council

Upcoming merger with the Australian Fashion Chamber In a sign that Australia’s fashion and textile community is united and working collaboratively, the two premier industry bodies, the Australian Fashion Chamber (AFC) and the Council for Textile and Fashion (CTF), on Wednesday 18th October 2017, announced their intention to merge.

It is intended that the new ‘Australian Fashion Council’ will represent all of the textile and fashion industry in Australia, including emerging and established designers, fashion retailers, manufacturers, uniform providers, education, state and national industry associations and students.

The driving rationale for the organisations coming together is to operate a stronger and more influential body that is aligned around helping all parts of the industry ecosystem grow.

The merged organisation will have offices and people in both Melbourne and Sydney, as well as a growing textile and fashion industry network around Australia, that will help further connect and assist members in this great industry.

Both organisations have seen significant growth in the last couple of years with a focus on design and innovation driven companies, supported by a broad and increasingly world-class industry. The Five Growth Pillars (Design & Innovation, Supply Chain, Emerging Business, Ethics & Sustainability, Export) will continue to form the framework of activities for the merged organisation. With this aligned focus and with great synergies between the two bodies the decision to move towards a merger was made. More will be able to be done together to continue on this growth path.

“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for Australian fashion with the prospect to really expand and build on both organisations’ achievements to a great future. “ – Edwina McCann AFC Chair & Editor of Vogue

“This marks a turning point for Australian industry and comes at a timely moment to strategically shape our future across the whole spectrum of design and textiles.” – John Condilis CTF Chair & Director of Nobody Denim
